End of Life Companions
0
Palliative Manitoba’s end of life companion volunteers provide companionship to individuals in Winnipeg who are living with a life-limiting illness. These volunteers provide much needed support for individuals and families during end-of-life care.
All volunteers are carefully selected and trained in providing compassionate practical, emotional, and spiritual support.
This service provides up to four hours of in-home companionship per week at no cost to the individual or family.
End of Life Companion Volunteers:
- Help lessen the feelings of loneliness
- Offer support for clients and family members
- Assist with outings
- Provide caregiver with short breaks
- Assist in recreational activities
Individuals are referred to the Palliative Manitoba End of Life Companion Service through the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program. Clients will be matched with a volunteer following an intake with a Palliative Manitoba staff member. This process may take several weeks depending on the availability of volunteers.
Our volunteers are also available to provide support to patients on the Palliative Care Units at Riverview Health Centre and St. Boniface General Hospital.
