The Sharon Carstairs Caring Community Award

For over 30 years Sharon Carstairs has dedicated herself to the promotion of access to palliative care for all Canadians. A pioneer in enhancing palliative care in Canada, her extraordinary work serves as an example throughout the world, and demonstrates how the vision and dedication of one individual can lead to dramatic and effective change. The Sharon Carstairs Caring Community Award is the first of its kind to recognize community-based efforts in palliative and end-of-life care.

The Sharon Carstairs Caring Community Award was established in 2012 to recognize and support exemplary leadership by a community or a community organization in providing or improving hospice and palliative care in Manitoba.
